Prudhomme’s Landing – Abandoned Wet N Wild Water Park

If your grew up in the 80’s along the Hamilton / Niagara corridor you most likely have been to this now abandoned water park or at very least new about it. On our latest trip we visited what’s left of the now abandoned Prudhomme’s Wet N’ Wild Waterpark. Although I was unable to find any records of when the park first opened it is well documented that its last season was in 2002. The water park started out small with 2 water slides built on the side of a man made hill but quickly grew to include a wave pool, lazy river and a tube ride. This area of the park was know and Wet N Wild. While another section of the park had bumper boats, bumper cars, go carts and a tilt-a-whirl. There was also a miniature train in the miniature world attraction.

As you wander around what’s left of the park, it is very apparent that nature is reclaiming this place very quickly. Although most of the equipment and rides were auctioned off and buildings torn down, there is still many traces of the old water park left. From the parking area you can see the man made hill, and what’s left of the tube ride towering above the brush and trees. Near the middle of the park, you will come across an old concrete building, now covered in graffiti. This was part of the wave pool, within the building the heater, pumps and machinery used to create waves are still there although now covered in rust. We even noticed a few bags of what looked to be salt or chlorine left behind. As you continue to walk you can see the concrete outline of the wave pool, its now full of brush and trees and the large patio covered in now decaying artificial turf. There is also the foundation of what was arguably its most popular attraction, “The Haunted House of Prudhomme’s. It was an old mansion on the property that was converted into a haunted house created by a man named Robert Gibbs. Gibbs went on to create the now legendary “Nightmares” haunted house in Niagara Falls.

This is a fascinating place to visit and there are other abandoned places nearby including the now abandoned Prudhomme’s Inn and Niagara paint-ball. Also keep an eye out for a video tour coming soon on our YouTube Channel.
